EL Program Overview

365体育投注平台 The EL Department organizes and manages the district wide English Learner Programs.





English as a Second Language


This program is designed to provide students with the English communication skills necessary for successful participation in the mainstream classroom.


New Arrival Center


This program is available to students in grades 1-12 who have been in the U.S. for one year or less and have minimal English.  Students are provided with intensive English language development for up to one school year.


Bilingual Education



365体育投注平台Bilingual Programs - The Spanish bilingual program is available for students in K-12 where students are taught grade-level appropriate curriculum in the native language and in English.  The Haitian-Creole bilingual program is available for students in 9-12 where students are provided with support in Haitian-Creole.


Native Language

Support Spanish speaking bilingual students in grades K-5 may receive support in Spanish in certain district schools, while participating in mainstream English classes for the majority of the day.


EL Sheltered Content Classes


365体育投注平台All EL students identified for this program will be scheduled in classes with teachers who have extensive knowledge of sheltering strategies to make the content comprehensible and accessible while students are acquiring English.
